3 Things you can do today to improve your fitness

I often get asked, 'whats the first thing I should do when starting a fitness journey' or 'whats the most important thing to do to get fitter'

Now firstly, there isn't any one thing that will get you noticeably fitter in a day, that's just crazy talk. But there are simple things that you can start doing today, that will help with your fitness goals, and improve your health and ability to workout.

 

So, what are 3 things you can do to help with your fitness, before you even set foot into the gym?

 

Number 1) Drink more water

The body is around 70% water on average, but the brain is around 90%, so ensuring you're properly hydrated is obviously going to keep everything ticking over. Drinking more water has a noticeable effect on your mood, and alertness (because of that pesky 90% brain water) and when you're in a better mood and feeling alert, you'll be much more likely to stick to any diet plans or training cycles you've got.


Number 2) Eat your fruits and veggies

DON'T BE AFRAID OF FRUIT! I had a coach tell me off for telling someone to eat fruit once.

'You cant do that, because fructose' (the knob)

Eating fruit not only helps keep you hydrated (still drink your water) but each fruit or veg is packed with a whole bunch of minerals and nutrients that you cant get in high quantities else where, and will just generally make you feel better.


Number 3) Get enough sleep

  • Sleep is for the weak

  • enough time to sleep when you're dead

  • I don't need sleep, coffee fuels me

BALLBAGS!

How many of these tropes have you heard?

How many have you said yourself?

I've said all three, and more in the past, and guess what? I was a ballbag. (still am, but for different reasons now)

Getting enough sleep is one of the most important things you can do when starting a fitness journey, and obviously everybody is different, and will everyone's sleep requirements will be different, but as a general rule of thumb aim for 7-9 hours of good sleep
